I have had many of our readers ask me who designed our classy and colorful new logo, and the answer is Jim Gallagher of Drama Queen Graphics. So here’s a conversation with the area’s newest queen.

Joel: OK, what does Drama Queen do?
Jim: We saves lives!! No seriously, Drama Queen Graphics creates graphic designs for stage productions. You can choose an existing “Ready-to- Wear” design from our collection of 300+ plays and musicals; or commission a custom made “Red Carpet” original.

How does it work?
We customize your design with your production information. Our designs become whatever your production needs: posters, programs, postcards, web graphics, tees or other visual promotions. Once we drop your data into the design, we send you a pdf file that you can do with as you please! Or we can help you get it printed. We’re easy.

It must cost a lot?
Shut your mouth! You can get a poster for as little as $50. Our existing designs are very budget-friendly. Our custom designs do cost more but we cater our fees to your budget. Plus, all custom designs come with our Triple Threat Package (poster, postcard and program cover) so you get a lot of bang. (For your buck, that is).

Do you design logos? Create web graphics?
We just designed YOUR new DCMetroTheaterArts logo! Duh. (LOL.) Yes, we do logos. We can also create all manner of web graphics.

Have we seen your work? Who are some of your clients?
We’ve done work across the country. We’ve recently been commissioned to create graphics for Steele Springs Theater Licensing out in California. We have many DC area clients like Young Artists of America, The Colonial Players, Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre, Dignity Players and St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Who is Drama Queen? How long have you been in the industry?
I am head Queen. My name is Jim Gallagher and I’ve been in the design industry for 25 years and have been involved in the theater for over 30. I’m an actor and director when I’m not making pretty pictures. So I know design and I know theater.  To aid me in my holy mission, I have an ever ready corps of talented artists.

Who needs Drama Queen?
In today’s visual culture, who DOESN’T?!

The obvious answer is anyone who needs help getting butts in seats. But what we do at Drama Queen does more than publicize your show – our work creates a visual identity for your production. It’s true that reviews and word of mouth play an enormous role in the decision-making process, but consumers put a premium on what they can actually see. And in the absence of a theatrical trailer, you need marketing materials that will visually engage your audience and create expectation. Beyond our creativity, there is also our exceptional service.
