The 2018 Helen Hayes Awards gave the DC theater community a chance to relax, recharge and reflect on a great year of theater.

Two productions of In the Heights dominated the evening, with GALA Hispanic Theatre’s production taking home nine awards, including Outstanding Production in a Musical – Helen. Olney Theatre Center’s joint production with Round House Theatre took home the Oustanding Production in a Musical – Hayes award.

The Outstanding Production in a Play awards went to Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Twelfth Night (Hayes) and Theatre Alliance’s Still Life with Rocket (Helen). For a full accounting of winners, click here.

Nicole Hertvik
Nicole Hertvik is the Editor-in-Chief of DC Theater Arts. She is a contributing writer to several publications in the DC region and beyond. Nicole studied international affairs at Columbia University and journalism at Georgetown. She was a 2019 National Critics Institute fellow at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center and a 2022 Entrepreneurial Journalism fellow at CUNY.
